THE PRINTS
From the artist's husband . . .
Classified as endangered, African Bush elephants are slaughtered for their ivory. There are few creatures whose massive size and strength contrast with the kindness and wisdom we can see in this fellow's eyes. Note that the complexity of textures the artist has created in this print are made entirely by ink dots, a technique known as stippling, using no lines at all.
The elephant has become a symbol of the relationship of man and the natural world that provides for him. As the elephant goes, so will go the human. On the edge of pachedermicide, our stewardship of the remaining living elephants will prove a harbinger for our own survival as a species.
Created in pen and ink using the stippling technique. Look closely--the entire piece is made of thousands of individual dots each work usually takes a minimum of twenty hours to complete.
